Medicinal and Food Garden Introduced Plant Collection
The plants in this collection are represented by the symbol of a log house. These non-native plants are ones that European settlers brought with them from their homelands. They represent a small sampling of the many species that have been introduced to the Acadian Forest Region throughout history for use as food and/or medicine.
Settlers brought favoured plants to their new homes to combat ill health and malnutrition. Without the medicinal and nutritional support of these plants, many settlers may have succumbed to the inherent hardships of starting new lives in strange lands.
