Medicinal and Food Garden Native Plants
The native plants in this collection are represented by the double curve motif. There are countless variations of this symbol found in the cultures of the Wabanaki; the peoples of the Acadian Forest Region.
The first curve in the symbol is representative of an individual's life in the womb. The central peak and embellishments signify the experiences and challenges of life. The second curve symbolizes death and being folded back into the womb of the earth.
This particular variation of the double curve motif was designed for us to showcase three vegetative lobes as embellishments of the central peak. These signify the protective and curative power of medicinal herbs as used by the Indigenous Peoples of the Acadian Forest Region, traditionally and today.
